Again, print this section out after expanding it if you want to be able to work through it next to your screen...

Then close this page and open Outlook Express...

[This is based on Outlook Express under Windows XP. Things may change over time]

You have two options:
1. To set up a POP email account (normal/default method) which will download your emails to your machine when you press send/receive.
2. To set up an IMAP email account.
The options are purely up to you and how you like working (most people choose a simple POP account).

If you are confident that you know what you are doing, go to the setup summary page where you will find what you need to set things up by yourself. Otherwise, with Outlook Express open, from the main window click on the ‘Tools’ menu and then on ‘Accounts’ to start the process.

A Window will pop up with 4 tabs - All, Mail, News, and Directory Service. Click on the Add button on the right hand side and select Mail from the list that pops up.
The Display name may already be filled in, but type in the name that will appear every time you send an email. This is not your email address but what others will see as your name when they receive an email from you. (e.g. John Doe). Press the Next button to continue.
Now you enter in your email address. This is the one that I have supplied in the email I sent you. It can be the main email address, or any of the aliases that I may have listed for you. If you would like to have an alias that is not listed, then get in touch and I will set it up. (e.g. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ). Once again press the Next button to continue.

Now is the time to select between POP3 or IMAP (you will have to delete and re-create your email account if you want to change this later).

In the second and third boxes enter the name of the new email server: mail.webspider.org (enter it in both boxes). Again press the Next button to continue.

Now enter you account/user name given in the email into the box marked Account Name and your password into the Password box. Make sure that the box marked Remember Password has a tick in it. Again press the Next button to continue.

You have now entered enough information to receive emails, so press the Finish button. This will take you back to the main Internet Accounts box.

Click on the entry “mail.webspider.org” and press the Set As Default button on the right hand side. Then in order to be able to send email through webspider, and click on the Properties button.

Now, in the properties window, click on the Servers tab. At the bottom of the window there is a section called “Outgoing Mail Server”. You need to click the box that is next to “My server requires authentication” (NOT the “log on using secure password authentication”). Outlook Express defaults the settings to be the same as the incoming email account, which is what is required. Click on OK to close the window.

You can now close the accounts window by pressing the close button.

You are now ready to send and receive emails through Webspider’s new mail server!

Please note: If you selected IMAP, then the first time you do a send and receive you will be asked if you would like to “Download Folders from your mail server”. Click on Yes and continue.

If you have chosen IMAP, you will be able to create folders on the server beneath the Inbox folder only. (trying to be as secure as possible)
